Very little is known about Asat Sar Jan. Analysis by The Rendition Project and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism has established that he was transferred into CIA custody at some point between 29 September 2002 and 28 October 2002. According to calculations published by the SSCI – he was held by the CIA for around two months (60-69 days). CIA records cited in the SSCI report show that there was some internal disagreement within the CIA over whether he met the requisite standards for CIA detention, with some inside the Agency believing that he may have been slandered by a rival tribal faction. Given internal disagreement on this matter, his name was not included in the list of 26 detainees identified in the SSCI Report as having been “wrongfully detained”.

Jan would have been transferred out of CIA custody at some point between 28 November 2002 and 5 January 2003. His fate and whereabouts after this point are unknown.
